I was recently told that I see the good in people even when others don't and it had me thinking why and how I have had this mindset for a while now. I realized that to me, Everyone is always doing the best they can even if it may not seem that way. People are usually acting with good intentions and I don't think anyone wakes up and sets out to harm, hurt others or do wrong the way we think they do. The way I see it, each and everyone of us are going through this war called life and each day is a different battle we have to face. It has taken me a while to realize how much people go through on the daily when it comes to the different struggles like anxiety, depression and just everyday problems. Took me a while to realize how surviving the day is a win to some because they go into it not knowing if they can come out of it.
None of us are exempt from any of this and each of us have to find different ways each day to fight the battle and eventually win the war. Sometimes I think it is important to put ourselves in the shoes of others and just think about their situations and how hard it may be for them. No one does the wrong thing on purpose. Each and everyone has different worldviews and to some people what they may be doing may be right to them in that moment. An email from Author Ryan Holiday talked about how when people wrong you, we have to remind ourselves that we may not be seeing the whole picture. Everyone goes through things and none of us are perfect. We shouldn't try to put that standard on anyone because we ourselves cannot reach it.
Not everyone thinks like us and may be as good as we think we are. It's okay to cut people some slack from time to time and understand where they may be coming from. We have to try our best to uplift and work with others in finding a solution not just cutting them out and avoiding them. Personally this is something I'm actively working on because I'm far from perfect myself and should go easy on others too. There are certain instances where the opposite has to be done when it comes to people which is understandable but that shouldn't be the first resort. We have to be open-minded to all possibilities.
This topic was inspired by an email from Daily Stoic author Ryan Holiday and I'm thankful for how much this daily wisdom continues to improve my life and mindset. Here is a link to check it out if interested.
