How we can adapt to and welcome change

I was talking to a patient at work recently about change and how adapting to it can be hard. Basically all the changes that had been going on around her had been leading to her feeling stressed because she was used to things being a certain way. She talked about how she wasn't ready for things to change all of a sudden. It had me thinking because she is not the only one who has a hard time adapting to change and will likely not be the last one. There comes a time in our lives when we get used to things been consistent for some time and like having our usual routine. Things changing all of a sudden can have a huge impact and make life harder in some instances. One thing we have to realize about life is that it is consistently changing and we shouldn't stay too comfortable.

Of course this is easier said than done especially when you have been living a certain way for a while but I think we should always be on high alert. I always have this saying of "hope for the best but expect the worse". This is not meant to think negatively about life or what may happen but my thinking is if you stay ready you don't have to get ready. It is always important to have a counter for everything that happens in life whether good or bad because life is a cycle and we go through the good and bad times. There will be bad times and times that will challenge us but we have to do what we can to adapt.

The ability to adapt to change is a quality not a lot of people have but one that demonstrates strength. We have to be able to embrace the opportunity to change. A perfect example is during COVID 19. None of us saw it coming and for a lot of us college students at that time it started when we were close to the end of the semester. It changed a lot for us socially and academically because we had to come home and do everything virtually. We weren't able to have as much social interaction and learning virtually was an adjustment but we were able to do what we could.

We adapted and also socially adapted to quarantine through wearing masks to keep ourselves and others safe. Another thing I believe will help us adapt to certain instances is us to see life as ever changing and us not being finished products. We have to know that there is always something that can be learned in life and we can always improve on things. Having a growth mindset is important because if your opinions and views on things don't change as you get more information then it means you are doing something wrong. We all should be open minded to know how to adapt to new information and how much that can impact how we see things and the world around us.
