Man makes plans, and God laughs

Man plans and God laughs. This is something I have been saying since 2019 but before that I never thought about life that way. I always had a deep faith in God and knew he had plans for me but I always felt like I had full control of my life and no one could tell me anything. I always felt like I had my life all planned out from where I was till where I wanted to be and knew I could get where I wanted to with a sense of hard work and dedication. What I didn't think about was how much God was up there laughing at me. We plan our lives with what we want to do, where we want to be but never think about where God wants us to be and how the universe is always shaping things.

Life is unpredictable and changes will always occur and we have to be okay with that. I always say everyone has their own journey and we should never compare ours to others but there are lots of cases when our plans don't go as planned. We want this and God laughs because he wants something else for us in a whole different direction and his way goes as always. An article I read on Psychology today was by Professor Saul Levine a professor at the University of California at San Diego summed it up perfectly. "We have driving and destination strategies but unforeseen roadblocks can deter us". We may aim to go to one destination but we don't usually think about the traffic, road closures or car problems that can stop us.

Our plans may have to be changed due to setbacks and unexpected changes that may disappoint us but we have to be okay with it and pick up again. How we plan things and what we want may not always come out how we wanted and the people we plan to have in our lives forever will not always stay or be by our side forever. Some things may happen due to personal decisions or sometimes just how the universe is but we have to know that we're always where we need to be. That is a mindset I have had for a long time now. No matter what has happened in my life, the decisions I have made, the plans which have not come to pass or have been changed drastically I always feel like I'm exactly where I need to be and God has put me in each moment for a reason.

He laughs at our plans because he is the one with the tools to bring them to pass and he can change them in anyway he feels and we just have to trust him. We have to stay positive and continue to be optimistic in what is to come. Shortcomings or mistakes do not decrease our value and we have to pick ourselves up and keep moving. Life is life and bad things will happen but no matter what we have to appreciate the good and think more on those. Things will happen when we least expect it and some may be challenging but we have to face them head on and know they won't last forever. No matter what, God has the plan not us.

This post was inspired by an article by Saul Levine M.D on Psychology today. He is a professor at the University of California at San Diego. The article is really knowledgeable and here's the link for anyone interested in it
