One Of My Favorite Players Just Retired, And I'm Starting To Feel Old
I was at work a while ago and received breaking news from ESPN. 18-year First Ballot Hall of Famer Russell Westbrook was announcing his retirement. I quickly went to google and there was a 3-minute farewell video honoring him narrated by the GOAT Michael Jordan which I quickly watched. It had us going through memory lane of some of his iconic plays and times of his career and it was a beautiful sight to behold. Another part of me was like mane, I'm getting old. I'm about to be 29 soon and remember watching young Russell Westbrook, James Harden, and Kevin Durant with the OKC Thunder. I remember being a Miami Heat fan around the time Lebron went there and beating the same OKC Thunder in the 2012 finals to get his first championship.
Westbrook was a Young 23-year-old at that time and 14 years later he is retiring at the age of 37. Where has time gone and can it slow down a bit. My cousin was about to be 30 a couple years ago, and I was kind of teasing him a little bit about it, but he told me my time is coming and I'll be there soon. Well, I'm almost there and will be 30 next year. Not married yet and no kids but hey I have lived quite a life. This moment is reminding me to appreciate the important parts of life no matter what. One of my coworkers told me she has always wanted to go to Japan but life and finances keep getting in the way in which I encouraged her to do it and live the life she wants and go after things she wants because life is short. We never know when our time will come and how fast it flies by. Thank You, Russell Westbrook, for an amazing career and happy retirement.
