The Importance Of Just Showing Up

I woke up this morning to go to the gym like usual and of course there are tougher days than others. There are days when I would rather stay in bed like everyone else and get more sleep. It would be easy just to relax but I wouldn't forgive myself if I did and hold myself responsible no matter what. The funny thing is the days I don't feel like waking up or have a hard time are some of the days I get my best workouts. I walk out just thanking God for giving me the strength to get up to even get there but there is one thing I always tell myself.

"I just have to show up". I just have to get to the gym which is around ten minutes from me. The hardest part is getting up but showing up is what matters. At times I think we underestimate the importance of it not just in the gym, work, but life in general. You'll be surprised how far we can go with that and we don't think about that enough in life. Constantly showing up in hard times and days we don't want to creates a sense of discipline within us that we don't fully comprehend. Consistency and discipline in life is not just for ourselves but can also inspire others around us.

Being the oldest and having a lot of siblings have shown me how much being an example can go and inspire those around. Showing up is also what we need at times and to give us the strength that we didn't have in the beginning. I talked earlier about not wanting to head to the gym at times but thirty minutes into the workout and it’s like I was never tired. The energy needed just automatically comes and that leads to success in the long run. So what I'm trying to say is even in the hard times or tough days we have to do what we can to show up.

In my job which is in the mental health field just showing up even in the days I don't want to makes a huge difference in the lives of lots of people no matter how small it is. One thing that is also important to note is showing up physically at times will stimulate the mental and will help get you in the right mind state. The physical, mental all work together and one can't function without the other but one can be a gateway to improving the other. That is always something to think about and to never forget.
