We're nearing the end of 2021 and mane what a year it has been. Personally I think it has been one of my best but I try not to talk about my personal life too much on this blog so that's all I'm going to give. Well as this year comes to a close we usually reflect on our year and think through the good and bad and how things can be improved. Most people look back on the goals they set for themselves at the start of the year and reflect on them successfully completing those goals or not. Others use this reflection to set new goals which we usually call New Year's Resolutions.
Even though there may be some good in setting these goals, I have also learned throughout the years that having these resolutions can limit us in some ways. I'm not saying having goals for the New Year is bad but It's all in how you go about it and how much of those goals are being focused on. One example of a goal for some individuals may be to lose weight, To make a certain amount of money, to be more social, to buy that new car, house etc. Even though these are all good and no doubt attainable, that kind of mindset may also lead to some shortcomings. A person wanting to lose weight may get a gym membership and may start out strong but after a while If they're not losing as much weight as they had wanted to, they can get discouraged and decide to give up all together.
That may lead them back to the old habits that led to their weight gain in the first place. A person having a goal of making a certain amount of money may come close to that amount or may be a little far off at the end of the year which in turn may lead to feelings of failure or disappointment. That person should look at it in a sense of I set out to make this much, but I came out with this amount. Even though I didn't reach my goal, I made a good amount and can build on that. I honestly think we should not have a long list of goals but just a couple two-three that we look to build on. These days I go into a New Year thinking, I want to be present in the moment, I want to improve in every aspect, I want to push myself and not limit myself as a person to achieve the unthinkable, I want to basically go with the flow.
This has worked for me and the past couple years, I honestly haven't had any failures or regrets. I focus on what is in my control and don't worry about what is not. I still have goals I want to achieve but I don't write them down. I just do what I can and let life take its course. This is not saying don't strive or take action to achieve what you want to but more importantly let God and the universe work. Now this may differ from person to person. These are just my thoughts and what has been working for me. For those who have had success setting lots of goals for their New Year's Resolutions, keep it going. If it isn't broke don't fix it. Happy Early New Years to everyone and lets continue to improve and strive for success.
