Are we living to survive or actually living?

I was talking to one of my close friends recently and he is navigating life after college and still trying to figure things out like all of us. At times I think a lot of us wish we were back in the college days because life was so free and we could do whatever we want and not have to worry about the effects for the most part but we all have to get through that point. Now after college we are all trying to figure out the next steps and how to navigate this world. I was talking to him recently and he made the statement of "Playing this game called life" and it had me thinking, Are we just living life to survive or are we actually living? From what I have noticed it seems like the majority of us are in survival mode and doing the best we can to reach the next day.

For an example most of our days are spent working because if we don't work we won't eat, provide for our families or even be able to afford to have somewhere to sleep. There is nothing wrong with this because this is life for the most of us and we all have to go out there to work hard for what we want. I recently read a couple articles by Sabrina Wex on yahoo and in one of them she talked about "College only being good for being an unemployed alcoholic for four years". Now this may be different for everybody but she is not completely wrong. She did her research and has talked to graduates and a lot of them have lots of debt due to college and have being unable to find jobs.

Personally I have being able to find a good job with my degree but after graduating I have come to the conclusion that a degree is not needed. I know a lot of people who have been successful without a degree. There are some jobs in which a college degree is needed and will help which is okay but personally it is not needed for everything. What Sabrina is saying is not wrong because a lot of people have been graduated for years and have not been able to land a job. This had led to a lot of depression and some have turned to alcohol and other things. As human beings not everyone has a hold on how to control or cope with things and some of these moments can lead to them turning to alcohol or other things.

In another article there are talks about how scary it is being in America right now due to inflation and the cost of things. A lot of people are struggling and working overtime or working multiple jobs to make ends. There is research that Americans spend the majority of their time at work which is over 8 hours per day and that is true. This is more for people working multiple jobs because they are headed straight to their 2nd jobs after the first one. Whatever we can do to "survive". A lot of people have thought of leaving to a different country because of the cost of living.

What I'm saying is of course we have to work to live but it seems like majority of the time survival comes first. Only a select people have the freedom of going through their days not thinking about how they'll survive till the next day and for those people that is a blessing. And the thing about this is it is the same all around the world. This is not something going on in just the United States. I talk to my friends in Africa all the time and they are in this same mindset too. "We do what we can to cope" is what one of my friends told me recently and she isn't wrong. No one is going to save you and we have to do what we can to survive this game called life. This is a link to the two articles written by Sabrina Wex for anyone interested.
