Be good to yourself, so you can be better to others

Self care is something a lot of people put behind in order to be there for others. A lot of people are so used to sacrificing their values, wants and happiness in order to make others happy that they sometimes don't even realize it. It's okay to want to be there for others but we first have to be there for ourselves. We can't be our best or reach our full potential when we are always thinking more about the wellness of others than ourselves. It is not selfish for you to put yourself first and make decisions that best serve you because if we don't do it, who will? I have seen a lot of people sacrificing their happiness or feeling stuck in situations they don't want to be in due to the fact that they don't want to hurt others or want others to be angry with them but it shouldn't be this way.


There is nothing wrong with someone having a negative reaction to a decision made to benefit yourself because at the end of the day you're putting your needs first and that's okay. A lot of people pleasers give a lot of their time, energy and other things to others while receiving nothing back and get bitter and angry because of it. Although there is nothing wrong with feeling this way at certain times, individuals should also know that nobody in this world owes them anything and we should never expect anything from anyone. Everyone is living their own life and is too busy going about their day to day to be too invested on how someone else is navigating theirs. It is okay to say NO to people when you are asked to do something you don't want to and there shouldn't be any guilt for making a decision that best serves you.


We also have to be patient with ourselves and not be too hard when we are not able to achieve something we may set out for or may be taking longer than we anticipated because some things take time. We have to be willing to enjoy the process so we can fully appreciate the end. Being good to yourself includes all aspects of life including the mental, physical and emotional. A person with knowledge of self is never lacking in life because they have done one of the most important aspects which is knowing the importance of self realization. Prioritizing ourselves first will help us with our relationships with others because we won't be too needy and will help us understand others more. Take time for yourself today and think first for yourself before you do others. There is nothing selfish about it!
