I was listening to Mural by the great Lupe Fiasco when one of his greatest lyrics "Life is not a dictionary, it's a thesaurus came through. Honestly I have probably listened to this song about a hundred times and every time I hear this part it never ceases to amaze me. The meaning of this is Life is not defined, but based on what you make of it. Dictionaries usually provide one definition of a word but a thesaurus has different meanings and synonyms of that word. To put it short one circumstance or event doesn't define our lives but we have the ability to come up with different ones that will make us who we are. I always here people talk about being stuck in a situation or where they are in life but actively not doing anything but accepting it.

Little do they know that their circumstance doesn't define their lives and it is not who they are. There are various opportunities to make it and change our course of life and one mistake does not decrease our value. We can learn from those mistakes and use it as a way to lead us to our new destination. Some examples are quotes from Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. He writes that "External things are not the problem but our assessment of them", which means we can erase the negatives right now. He also writes that "If the problem is something in your own character, who's stopping you from setting your mind straight". Being stuck in a situation is only our minds doing.

We can change the way we think about these situations and use it as fuel meaning the Obstacle is the way. One final quote is "If you're not doing something you think you should be, why not just do it". Our inaction is what keeps us from reaching our full potential or actively becoming who we are destined to be. If you don't like the direction your life is going then do something about it. Your situation is not defined and can be changed with a willingness to. Don't let negative thoughts and self doubt keep you from elevating.
