Nature vs Nurture

Are we determined by our surroundings or are we able to get past it. That is one of the biggest questions when it comes to individuals and their upbringing and how they can use that to motivate them for success or can it be a hinderance? I have seen a lot of people who have fought and struggled through their upbringing to become successful in what they wanted to achieve. I have also seen people be limited by the things they have being through and how they were raised. Their environment has always stayed with them, and they have never been able to recover. Both a person's nature and nurture can influence a lot but at the end of the day it is up to the person to make something of themselves with their circumstances and not try to repeat the same kind of mistakes they have been used to.

An example is a person raised in a one parent household. Navigating that is not easy at all especially if the individual has never gotten the opportunity to get to know this parent or build a relationship. The struggles they may endure through this and not being introduced to a two-parent household can influence a lot. This may impact the individual's relationships with others, and it is easy to repeat this behavior but that doesn't have to be the case. This individual always has the right to choose different and can be motivated by the absence of a parent and make sure their own offspring never have to go through that. They are going against the odds.

A lot of professional athletes or other celebrities have the story of a hard upbringing in which they had nothing, parents had to struggle just to provide food and shelter but this didn't keep them down. It pushed them harder because they wanted to make it out and be able to provide for themselves and their own families. They found what they were good at whether sports or other skills and decided to put in all the work till they got to the top. This is an example of not letting the nature of what they were used to stop them. There have been instances in which the nurture of what a person was raised on and where stays with them forever no matter how hard they try to get away.

There is a term "You can take someone from the hood but can't take the hood out of them" and that is nothing but truth. Individuals get introduced to violence, drugs, and others and that is all they know. They grow up and try to escape it, but it somehow always seems to catch up to them. The influences and people around them introduce them to the lifestyle and that is how the individual gets thrown into it. Before you know it, the individual is in the street life and navigating their day to day in hopes of survival. The rewards and feeling may be good for a while, but the result is always the same "Dead or In Jail". The nature of this person can defeat their nurture, but it depends on the individual realizing what exactly is important to them and what they are after.
