Fresh Starts Are Beautiful

Today was the last day of one of my coworkers and even though she is not leaving the company per say she is moving to a different department and it had me thinking about the beauty of fresh starts. She started a little bit after I did and it kind of feels weird seeing her leave, but I think that is the beauty of it. She wants a fresh start and a new environment, and that is amazing. Fresh starts in new environments, cities or even countries are things I always advocate because sometimes we get too comfortable and put ourselves in a box which kind of stops our growth. I know she's going to be amazing and wish her the best through it all. What's also funny about this person is we share the same birthday, and I reminded her that I'll be thinking about her on our birthday.

One thing I continue to remember day in, and day out is life is short and we must do the best we can to make the most of it. We should take all the risks we want to and even if we are not successful or get the results we wanted, what matters is we were willing to try and challenge ourselves. Growth happens when we continue to challenge ourselves day in and day out and not limit ourselves to a certain job, position, or location. Traveling has shown me the beauty in the world and there is so much to see that we will never know what else is in the world and what we are missing out of unless we go against our comfort zone and decide to make a move. I'm inspired by people who pack up and leave to different countries or cities in which they don't know anyone and decide to start fresh.

I recently spoke to a patient who is about to graduate college here in Texas and wants to move to Colorado because she feels she needs a fresh start. She has been in different parts of Texas her whole life and feels like a change is needed. She was contemplating making the move but has twice taken road trips to Colorado and feels like this is somewhere she'll be able to excel. The challenge in moments like this is asking if the risk will be worth it and remembering the first couple of months may not be easy and the adjustment period may not be what they think but in due time things will settle. It is important to give a grace period which for me is around 6 months of fully getting used to a new environment and seeing the way forward. That is what I told my coworker and for her to know there's always room for her back here if she feels the different department is not for her. What's the worst that can happen right? Coming back to where you're comfortable with?
