It Felt Different

I was recently at a graduation party for one of my first cousins who recently graduated college and it was a really good time. I just want to congratulate her on her accomplishments and praying for nothing but success in this next phase of her life. It was filled with dancing, good food and overall a good time. In the moment of celebration something happened that made me feel different and a feeling I have had for a while now. In the middle of the celebration everyone got out their phones to record the moment and for me my phone was all the way on the other side of the building and I didn't feel a need to get it.
I have been back on social media a little but do it now to where I'm on for about three to four months and take the rest of the year off. I'm currently in that phase to where I logged out at the end of January and haven't been back since. This moment was a wake up call to me because in the past I would be one of the first ones recording all the moments. There came times in the past where I would want to post everything to show everyone what I was doing and where I was but that honestly has changed in the last five years. I value the solitude that comes with people not knowing what I'm doing or where I am.
I have traveled to fifteen countries so far and for the most part haven't had any reason to post these places or show off the experiences. There is value in being mysterious and people not knowing too much about you and that is something I learned years ago. I was able to fully be in the moment during this graduation party and was able to socialize and meet people I probably wouldn't have if I was too focused on my phone. I think that is something we can all learn from going forward. Putting the phone down and being fully present in the moment we're in because we never know when we'll get these again.
