No Parent Should Have To Bury Their Child

I went to the grave of a family member with my aunt a couple days ago and it had me looking at things a little different. The family member we went to go see passed away at 37 and after 4 months it still feels fresh and we are just taking it one day at a time. These things are never easy, but we try the best we can day in and day out because God has the plan no matter what and we know she is in a better place. Along the way we came across a woman who was around the gravesite who said she was visiting her daughter. We were talking to her and learned that she lost her daughter 4 years ago at the age of 22.
22 is very young and I know it wasn’t easy for a mother to bury her daughter at such a young age. She told us her daughter was struggling with depression and ultimately lost her life to it. I told her I worked in the mental health field and help people going through the same and she expanded on how her daughter was going through a lot around COVID and her depression was so bad that she wasn't eating and would isolate herself. She also talked about how she was prescribed medications, but her daughter felt they weren't helping her and ultimately gave up. It is very sad and like she said it doesn't get any easier.
No parent should ever have to bury their child no matter how old. It should be the other way around and kids should be burying their parents at their old age and reminiscing on what they learned and loved about their parents. A lot of times nowadays it is the opposite. A counselor talked about losing his daughter to suicide at the age of 24 and that is what set him on the path of being a counselor and helping people with what they are going through. We are losing kids at young ages nowadays and parents are tasked on trying to navigate how to heal from losing their kids. Kids and adults are completing suicide or dying from other causes at such young ages nowadays. What we can do is be there for each other the best we can and trust and pray to God to guide and protect us day by day. RIP
