What I Learned In Hong Kong

I recently came back from Japan and Hong Kong and all I can say is it's a different world over there. I didn't even want to come back but what I can say is I was able to learn a lot from this trip, and I want to write a little bit about it. I was going to combine them into one post but will probably make them into separate ones. I want to touch on how I think the Asian countries as a whole at least from the sample size of the two I went to have mastered peace and stillness and how it might have helped me discover it too. I used a lot of their public transportation to get to the different places and walked around a lot and along the way I was able to watch and learn from the people.
The best thing about Hong Kong which was my first stop was how the people carried themselves. I used the train to get to my different destinations, and it seemed like everyone knew exactly where they were going and were not going to waste any time in getting there. I remember it was raining and as a tourist was taking my time walking and admiring the scenes but the people there were running and in a hurry. Of course, this is normal for any individual when you are running late and need to get somewhere but for them it was consistent. They would overtake you if needed to get to their destination and I think that drive is missing here at times. I had one moment in which I was walking around admiring a famous Bruce Lee Statue in which a man and his family asked to take a picture with me.
Apparently, most of these Asian countries are not used to seeing African Americans or just Black individuals like me and it is sort of a badge of honor to come across one of us. I took a picture with him, his year-old daughter and his wife. They were very sweet and kind and I even gave them my phone and asked for a picture myself. It is important sharing these kinds of memories because this is something I will remember forever. I also had two women ask to take a picture with me and I thought it was really dope. The attention to detail in Hong Kong is something that stood out. I went to a building known as the monster building which is basically a collection of apartments their residents live in but not just any apartments.
There are over 25 floors high and may even be higher than that. Attention to detail is really needed for that especially when it comes to building something of that caliber that is expected to last for a long time. It was an amazing view, and I went in the morning and saw the residents going about their day. There were markets at the bottom of the building, and the locals were selling things like fruits, vegetables and other things you could tell was fresh. It was a great sight to behold. Being in Hong Kong made me see a different side of the world I wasn't expecting, and Japan was even more eye opening. I am thankful to have been able to be there and hope to get back there one day. Here are a couple pictures from my trip there.
